Mayor Khaniya Leads ‘Larva Search and Destroy’ Campaign in Chitwan Municipality

Bharatpur, July 31: Khairahani Municipality of Chitwan has initiated a ‘larva search and destroy’ campaign to safeguard the public from the mosquito-borne dengue disease.

While speaking at the launch event, Mayor Shahsi Kumar Khaniya, alongside deputy mayor Kabita Uprety, elected people’s representatives, employees, health workers, and locals, kickstarted the door-to-door visit campaign to identify and eliminate mosquito larvae in potential areas.Mayor Khaniya pledged to sustain the campaign and urged residents to remain vigilant about potential dengue outbreaks. He informed the public about an ongoing awareness campaign targeting the elimination of Aedes mosquitoes’ eggs.

Nirmal Ghimire, the health section chief of the municipality, highlighted the intensified public sensitization efforts, aiming to reduce dengue risks by actively engaging with the community. He emphasized that the rapid urbanization within the municipality contributes to the spread of mosquito-borne infections.

In the same context, Ratnanagar Municipality issued a call to all residents to adopt safety measures against mosquito bites. The municipality urged all ward residents to actively participate in the ‘search and destroy’ campaign to eliminate mosquito larvae. Madhav Prasad Poudel, the Public Health Officer of Municipality, shared that the campaign’s purpose is to eradicate the mosquito larvae responsible for transmitting dengue.

As of now, Chitwan has reported 13 cases of dengue infection. According to the Health Office Chitwan, out of 121 blood tests conducted, 13 individuals tested positive for dengue.
