PM Prachanda Commits to Privacy Law Amendments for Enhanced Transparency

Kathmandu, Dec 7: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pledged to initiate amendments to privacy laws, aiming to make personal details of individuals assuming public posts accessible to the public. This commitment was expressed upon receiving the annual report of the National Information Commission (NIC) for the fiscal year 2079-80 BS (2022-23).

During the report presentation, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring citizens’ access to personal information of public officials to establish good governance. NIC Chief Commissioner Mahendraman Gurung handed the report to the Prime Minister, and according to Commissioner Ratna Prasad Mainali, the Prime Minister expressed a positive stance towards making the Commission more resourceful.

The NIC is scheduled to unveil the full report and its recommendations through a press meet later today.
