Kathmandu, Apr 28: In response to escalating tensions in the region, the US Department of Defense has announced plans to dispatch Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.

This decision comes shortly after the US declared a military aid package worth $6 billion for Ukraine, part of which will include the provision of these missiles.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin clarified that while the Patriot missile system will be provided to Ukraine, other military hardware will not be part of this assistance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the urgent necessity to counter Russian airstrikes, expressing hope that the deployment of Patriot missiles could help mitigate the situation and save lives.

Reports from Ukraine on Saturday indicated a significant air attack carried out by Russia, resulting in damage to a hospital in Kharkiv. Additionally, three power plants were reportedly targeted in the assault, as stated by Ukraine’s energy minister.
