Nepali Swimmer Alexander Shah Sets National Record at Paris Olympics
Kathmandu, Jul 30: Nepali swimmer Alexander Shah has set a new national record in the 100m freestyle at the Paris Olympics. Competing at the Paris La Défense Arena, Shah completed the distance in 51.91 seconds, surpassing his previous record of 52.17 seconds. Despite this achievement, he was eliminated from the first round, finishing 59th overall.
Previously, Shah held the record at 52.17 seconds in the 100 meters freestyle. Out of a total of ten heats, only the 16 best swimmers advanced to the subsequent stage.
In addition to Shah, other Nepali athletes have faced early exits from their respective events. Santu Shrestha in table tennis, Sushmita Nepal in shooting, Manita Shrestha Pradhan in judo, Duwana Lama in swimming, and Prince Dahal in badminton have all been eliminated in the first round of their events.
Prince Dahal still has one match left in the group stage. The only remaining competition for Nepal is Santoshi Shrestha, who will compete in the marathon.
