Kathmandu, Aug 28: Uruguayan defender Juan Izquierdo has passed away at the age of 27.
Juan collapsed on the field during Club Nacional’s Copa Libertadores match against Brazilian club Sao Paulo on August 22. The incident occurred in the 84th minute of the game, after which he was quickly taken off the field and transported to the hospital by ambulance. The hospital later confirmed that Juan had suffered brain death.
The Uruguayan Football Federation expressed deep sorrow over Juan’s passing, describing the news as “extremely sad” and noting that South American football is currently in mourning.
