Bhaktapur Celebrates Phulpati with Traditional Rituals, Rejecting National Schedule

Bhaktapur, Oct 9: Bhaktapur’s Neva: Samdaya celebrated Phulpati today, deviating from the national schedule set by the Nepal Almanac Judging Development Committee. Bhaktapur Municipality declared a public holiday to observe the festival, adhering to its local traditions.

City Chief Sunil Prajapati called for the celebration of Phulpati on October 23, Maha Ashtami on October 24, and Mahanavami on October 25. The community has followed the timings set by local priests, starting Phulpati rituals at 7:34 a.m. today. As per tradition, after bringing in Phulpati, families prepare a feast in the evening.

The priests and concerned individuals of Bhaktapur Taleju have set the schedule for the remaining rituals, rejecting the national schedule, which recommended Phulpati on October 24 and other rituals following the same timeline.

The Bada Dashain festival also began formally at Bhaktapur’s Taleju temple with special worship and rituals as per local customs.
