Over 50,000 Devotees Offer Prayers at Dupcheshwor Mahadev Temple on Dhanya Purnima
Trishuli, Dec 16: On the occasion of Dhanya Purnima, over 50,000 devotees offered prayers at the Dupcheshwor Mahadev Temple in Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality-6, Nuwakot.
According to Shankar Bahadur Thapa, Patron of the Dupcheshwor Area Development Fund and Rural Municipality Chairman, more than 20,000 devotees visited on the main festival days, Saturday and Sunday, as the festival commenced on Ekadashi.
The temple’s priest, Bhagwan Hari Dhital, explained that the number of devotees surged due to the unique alignment of the full moon over both days this year.
As per local legend, the temple’s significance dates back to when a local named Basu Tamang discovered his lost cow offering milk to a stone on the Ankantar mountain. Believed to be Dupcheshwor Mahadev, the stone became a site of worship.
Devotees revere Dupcheshwor Mahadev as a god who fulfills wishes, particularly for conceiving children. Many also visit the temple with hopes of enabling speechless children to speak or improving their livestock’s health by offering cow dung as a sacred ritual.
