Kathmandu, Jan 8: French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk, accusing him of supporting reactionary movements and interfering in elections worldwide, including in Germany.

“Who would have thought ten years ago that the owner of the world’s largest social network would support an international reactionary movement and interfere in multiple countries’ elections?” Macron said during an address to French ambassadors.

Although he refrained from naming Musk directly, Macron’s remarks follow similar comments from German and British leaders. Germany, which is preparing for mid-term elections, has seen concerns raised about Musk’s influence. A German government spokesperson mentioned Musk directly, downplaying his impact on voters.

Macron’s comments come despite his good relationship with Musk, highlighted by Musk’s recent invitation to the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also recently responded to Musk’s remarks, defending Minister Jess Phillips without directly naming him, stating that she has achieved far more for victims than her critics.
