NASA Astronauts Conduct First Spacewalk After Eight Months on ISS
Kathmandu, Jan 31: NASA astronauts Sunny Williams and Butch Wilmore have completed their first spacewalk together, nearly eight months after arriving at the International Space Station (ISS).
The two astronauts conducted exterior repair work and examined vents for potential microorganisms. “Now we know,” Wilmore commented as they worked 420 kilometers above Spain.
Williams and Wilmore were originally scheduled to stay for a week after reaching the ISS in June. However, technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner capsule forced NASA to keep them aboard. The space agency has now decided to bring them back to Earth on a SpaceX mission, expected in late March or early April.
This marks Wilmore’s first spacewalk, while Williams previously participated in an extravehicular activity with other NASA astronauts two weeks ago.
