Lower Solukhola Hydropower Project Nears Completion

Solukhumbu, Feb,6: The 82 MW Lower Solukhola Hydropower Project in Tingla, Solukhumbu, has reached its final stage, with 95% of construction completed.

Key infrastructures, including the generator, turbine, headbox, powerhouse, and tunnel road, have been constructed under Tallosolu Hydropower Company Limited.

According to Project Manager Dharmendra Gotameka, the project is in the breakthrough stage of the Penstock Tunnel, with only the penstock pipe installation remaining.

“Our goal is to start commercial production by August,” Gotameka stated.

Project Progress & Challenges

  • Transmission Line: Over 80% completed.
  • Funding: Rs 16 billion loan from the European Bank (FMO & international funding agencies).
  • Infrastructure: A dam has been built on the Solu River, bordering Solududhkund Municipality-7 & 11, to direct water to the Bhadore powerhouse via a 5 km tunnel.
  • Employment: 700 workers, including hundreds of locals, are engaged in construction.
  • Delays & Costs: Geographical challenges and the long tunnel route could increase project costs.

Power Generation & National Grid Connection

Once completed, the project will generate:

  • 82 MW in monsoon
  • 23 MW in winter

The produced electricity will be transmitted via the Tinla substation, contributing to Nepal’s national grid.
