Kathmandu, Feb 17: A Nepali B.Tech student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, was found dead in their college hostel.

The deceased student, identified as Prakariti, was in their third year of study. The college suspects the student may have died by suicide and mentioned a possible relationship with another student in a statement.

Following the incident, college students launched protests, demanding justice. Demonstrators have taken to the streets from the college premises, and 60 police officers have been deployed to control the situation.

Students claim the deceased was in a three-year relationship with a mechanical engineering student who recently left Bhubaneswar after securing a job. Friends allege this caused emotional distress.

Protesters are demanding the arrest of the alleged partner. Police have sent the body for post-mortem at Capital Hospital and are waiting for the student’s parents to arrive. Investigations are ongoing.
