Putin Agrees to Ceasefire in Ukraine, But Sets Strict Conditions

Kathmandu, March 14: Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, but with strict conditions, raising doubts about the effectiveness of the agreement.
While Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the proposal, he accused Putin of trying to prolong the war. Zelensky also called for additional sanctions against Russia, which the US imposed on Russia’s oil, gas, and banking sectors.
In a press conference in Moscow, Putin stated that “the idea of a ceasefire is right,” but questioned how it would be implemented. He raised concerns over Ukraine’s military activities in the Kursk region, claiming that Russia has full control over the area.
“Ukraine has two options: surrender or die,” Putin said, adding that Russia fears Ukraine might use the ceasefire to rearm and train its forces.
In response, Trump expressed support for the ceasefire and announced his plan to meet Putin. He also mentioned that Ukraine should decide which territories to keep or give up as part of the final peace agreement.
Meanwhile, Russia has released a video showing Putin visiting the Kursk region, while Ukraine accused Russia of targeting civilians and violating human rights.
The situation remains tense as both sides refuse to back down from their demands, making the possibility of lasting peace uncertain.
