Kathmandu, April 29: In a night that will go down in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced an unbelievable batting performance to lead Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling victory over Gujarat Titans, who had posted a towering total of 209 runs.

Rajasthan, previously in ninth place on the points table, faced immense pressure. But Vaibhav, in only his third IPL match, turned the game into a spectacle. Facing India star Mohammad Siraj, Vaibhav began with a straight six off his first ball and later exploded in the fourth over, hitting 28 runs off veteran Ishant Sharma, including three sixes and two fours—marking Ishant’s most expensive over in IPL history.

He then completed the fastest half-century of IPL 2025 in just 17 balls, lowering the required run rate dramatically and shifting the game’s momentum.

In the 10th over, bowled by Karim Janat, Vaibhav smashed 30 runs with three sixes and three fours, cementing his dominance. His innings included a total of 11 sixes and 7 fours, a feat previously achieved only once by an Indian in IPL.

Vaibhav eventually scored 101 runs, falling to Prasidh Krishna, but not before etching his name in IPL folklore. The crowd, commentators, and even opponents stood in admiration of the teenager’s heroic knock.

Rahul Dravid, coach of Rajasthan Royals, stood up from his wheelchair, visibly emotional, to applaud the young star. Former legends and current cricketers flooded social media with praise:

  • Yusuf Pathan, whose 37-ball century record was broken, wrote:
“Congratulations to Sano #VaibhavSuryavanshi… Still some magic left in Rajasthan Royals!”
  • Yuvraj Singh commented:
“This child is challenging the best bowlers in the world with his eyes closed!”
  • Sachin Tendulkar noted:
“His fearless approach and power hitting were magical.”
  • Aakash Chopra wrote:
    “Vaibhav Suryavanshi was launched tonight!”

After receiving the Player of the Match, Vaibhav said:
“It feels like a dream. I just focus on the ball and not the pressure. This is the result of 3-4 months of hard work.”

The cricketing world has officially welcomed a new prodigy, and the IPL has its newest—and youngest—superstar.
