Indian Supreme Court urges Modi government to put farming laws on hold
Kathamndu, January 12. India’s Supreme Court has asked the Modi government to pause the implementation of the recent farming laws.
The Modi government had recently introduced farming laws that sparked protests from farmers all over the country. While PM Modi has insisted that the new laws will benefit the farmers, the farmers have been protesting in the outskirts of Delhi since months demanding the laws to be abolished, as they say the law will benefit the private and corporate sectors only.
Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde said that he is disappointed in how the Modi government is handling the situation. He added , “Tell us whether you will put the laws on hold or else we will do it … What’s the prestige issue here?”
However, the Modi government has said that there was ‘no question’ of revoking the laws.
