Federal Judge pauses Biden’s moratorium on deportation
Kathmandu. January 27. While fulfilling his campaign promises, Joe Biden on his first day as the 46th president of the United States, signed a 100-day moratorium on the deportation of undocumented migrants.
One of Trump’s allies, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, had immediately appealed the court saying “I commend the Court for prioritizing the law and safety of our citizens,”.
In response to Paxton, a US Federal judge Drew Tipton on Tuesday agreed to temporarily pause the policy for at least 14 days, as a time period for an adequate reexamination of the policy. “The temporary restraining order was appropriate under the Administrative Procedure Act,” said Tipton.
According to the moratorium, the immigrants who have entered the United States before November 1, 2020, and lack legal documents, will have protection against deportation issues if they are willing to stay in the US. However, the new policy shall not apply to the suspects of terrorism or who pose threat to national security.
