UK PM Boris Johnson to visit India on April 26, a trade pact likely to be signed
Kathmandu, March 21. Prime minister of United Kingdom(UK), Boris Johnson will be visiting India on April 26.
This will be his first international visit after UK withdrew from European Union. He will be visiting major Indian cities namely Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai.
His visit also is crucial as UK sees India as a major ally and focusing on Indo-Pacific Strategy. A senior official said, “The region is already critical to our economy and security; is a focal point for the negotiation of international laws, rules and norms; and will become more important to UK prosperity over the next decade”.
UK seeks to deepen economic ties with India, which is the second-largest investor in the British economy, and has been trying to persuade New Delhi for a two-step free-trade deal. Officials have said that a trade pact is likely to be signed, which was reviewed during February at a ministerial level.
Johnson was earlier supposed to visit India for the Republic Day program, but was unable to do so due to rise in covid cases in UK.
