Twitter fears freedom of expression in India

Kathmandu, May 28. Twitter has recently said that it is concerned for the right of freedom of expression being violated India.

In recent developments, the government of India announced new guidelines fro social media platforms in February to regulate digital content.

Police visited the India offices of Twitter for the clarification of tweet of a BJP spokesperson. Twitter has largely condemned the act and said that the tweets are used to display Twitter as “manipulative media”.

Under the new guidelines, Twitter along with other social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook have to hire a few extra employees along with tracking the origin of a message if asked by the government.

Twitter has said that the new guidelines represent “dangerous overreach that is inconsistent with open, democratic principles”.

The company has asked a minimum of three months for the implementation of the rules. They have also said that they will continue their talks with the government to safeguard the interests of the public.
