India’s Serum Institute seeks permission to manufacture “Sputnik V”

Kathmandu, June 3. The World’s largest vaccine maker, Serum Institute of India (SII) is seeking permission to manufacture the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine in India.

According to agency reports, the Pune-based institute has applied to the Drug Controller General of India for test analysis and examination of its production units.

At present, Hyderabad-based Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is the only Indian vaccine maker that produces Sputnik V. It is currently working on the latest consignment of 30 lakh doses.

Sputnik V is one of three vaccines in the world with an efficacy of over 90%. It has already been registered for emergency use in 65 countries including India and Nepal.
