US pledges 25 million vaccine doses for countries around the world

Kathmandu, June 4. US president Joe Biden has pledged that US will be sharing 25 million doses of vaccines with countries around the world. The doses will the initial of the 80 million doses that have been pledged by the US by the end of June.

The White House has said that out of the 25 million doses, 19 million will go to COVAX, an international vaccine effort, with approximately 6 million for South and Central America, 7 million for Asia, and 5 million for Africa.  The 25 million doses are a mixture of vaccines from Johnson and Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer.

The remaining 6 million will be directed by the White House to U.S. allies and partners, including Mexico, Canada, and the Republic of Korea, West Bank and Gaza, Ukraine, Kosovo, Haiti, Georgia, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Yemen, as well as for United Nations frontline workers.The US has said that around 550,000 South Korean soldiers will be vaccinated in the US.

US has also pledged 60 millions doses of domestically produced AstraZeneca vaccines to other countries.

In South Asia, all countries except Bhutan will be receiving the vaccine as Bhutan has administered the first dose of Oxford- AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine to its entire population.
