Astrazeneca offers 90 percent protection against DELTA variant

Kathmandu, June 23. AstraZeneca pharmaceutical giant on Tuesday said that its anti-Covid-19 vaccine offers high protection against the deadly coronavirus variant “Delta” and “Kappa”.

According to the official release, a study was recently conducted by Oxford University that involved testing the ability of monoclonal antibodies against the deadly variants.

After a detailed comparative analysis of antibodies in blood samples from recovered patients and vaccinated people, the researchers concluded that the AstraZeneca vaccine offers up to 90% protection against hospitalization. 

The Delta(B.1.617.2) variant is becoming a dominant version in the world. Earlier this week, the Nepali health ministry reported that the strain has been detected in Nepal. Until last week, Alfa (B.1.1.7) and Kappa (B.1.617.1) were only found in Nepal. 

Covishield

The World’s largest vaccine manufacturer, The Serum Institute of India is currently producing millions of doses of Astrazeneca developed vaccine under the brand name “Covishield”.
