UK, Rwanda sign migrant deal, criticized by human rights group

Kathmandu, April 15. The United Kingdom(UK) and Rwanda has signed a migrant deal on Thursday, that will allow asylum seekers in the UK to be relocated to Rwanda.
While UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson termed the deal as an “innovative approach”, UK Home Secretary Priti Patel called the deal as “joint new migration and economic development partnership”.
Further, Patel said the deal will provide support for the migrants up to five years; which included training, accommodation and health care.
Rwandan Foreign Minister Vincent Biruta said Rwanda is elated to work with UK.
Deal criticized by human rights group
The deal has not got well with the human rights group and activists.
International organizations such as United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Amnesty International has criticized and called against the move. They have expressed that the decision is against the international law and it could trigger smuggling and trafficking.
Additionally, an UNHCR official said people should not be “traded like commodities and transferred abroad for processing.”
