Kim Jong-un apologizes for the killing of a South Korean official
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has issued an apology to his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in for the recent killing of a South Korean official. This apology coming from Kim is considered to be a rare occurrence.
The 47-year-old man was found in the North Korean waters by the state’s officials and was shot ten times after he failed to show his identity. Seoul has claimed that the body was then burned at sea. Border policies have been incredibly strict between North and South Korea since the Military Demarcation Line was placed between the two nations. North Korea also has a ‘shoot-to-kill’ policy in a bid to prevent the virus from entering its borders.
According to a report from BBC, Kim Jong-un has stated that the incident was “disgraceful” and should not have happened. His apology came in a letter sent to the Blue House, the South Korean leader’s presidential office. The situation has sparked an outrage in South Korea, with people demanding further investigation of the incident. Moon has proclaimed that Pyongyang should take appropriate disciplinary actions with regards to the matter.
