WHO Chief meets President Bhandari; praises Nepal’s COVID-19 response strategy

Kathmandu, April 22. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), arrived in Nepal on Thursday afternoon.

On Friday morning, Dr. Tedros made a courtesy visit to Shital Niwas, the official resident of Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari. The president extended gratitude to WHO for evenly distributing vaccines against COVID-19 to all countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In the afternoon, Dr. Tedros seated a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. PM’s press coordinator Govinda Pariyar told reporters that the WHO leader praised the Nepali government for launching effective strategy for control and prevention of COVID-19. “Dr. Tedros also extended thanks to the Nepal government for launching the vaccination against typhoid among children- the first in South Asia,” Pariyar added.

As per the official schedule, the delegation will visit Patan Secondary School, Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar, as well as observe the typhoid vaccination campaign and inspect the National Public Health Laboratory.

The delegation team led by WHO Chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is on a  three-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada. The team is scheduled to complete its visit on April 23.
