10 confirmed dead in Japan’s missing boat incident

Kathmandu, April 24. A tourist boat consisting of 26 passengers went missing on Saturday in eastern Hokkaido in Japan.
A total of 10 people have been confirmed dead on Sunday, according to the Japan Coast Guard (JCG). It included seven men and three women.
It is reported the boat, named as ‘Kazu 1’ went for sightseeing on Saturday afternoon and then went missing. Further, it is reported that the boat had made an emergency call in the afternoon same day.
Moreover, two of the passengers are reported to be children.
According to local fisheries co-operative, high waves and tides were observed Saturday afternoon, due to which fishing boats returned to the port.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has directed officials to “do everything in their power to save lives”. Rescue efforts have been continued despite high waves to find remaining passengers.
