Pakistan citizens face food shortage
Kathmandu, May 27. A large part of the Pakistani population have been facing acute food shortage in rural areas, due to improper planning and mismanagement, as reported by International Forum for Rights and Security (IFFRAS).
Inflation and corruption has been crucial factors that led to food shortage. According to the World Food Programme(WFP), affordability poses an obstacle, as many people in Pakistan are unable to afford according to increasing prices.
Further, World Food Programme revealed that 43% of Pakistanis are food insecure and 18% suffer from food insecurity.
Studies have found that there are shortages in three provinces- Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.
Absence of proper planning for the agricultural sector along with territorial factors have also posed as factors in increasing food insecurity in Pakistan. Finding water for irrigation has become difficult. Most terrains are rugged which is uncultivable.
Moreover, food insecurity creates rise in socio-economic inequalities, eventually affecting everyone in the household.
