Paragliding banned in Nepal; CAAN to reform safety laws

Kathmandu, October 16. On Sunday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) announced a nationwide ban on paragliding activities.

Deputy Director General of the aviation regulatory, Jagannath Niraula informed reporters that the step was taken to manage policies, rules, and laws to ensure proper safety of paragliders in the country.

“We have observed a sharp rise in paragliding accidents… we will resume paragliding activities only after devising laws and regulations related to it,” he noted.

Paraglider dies during 9th National Games in Pokhara

26-year-old paraglider sportsman Nisim Thapa Magar died during an accident on Sunday. While competing in the cross-country paragliding event under the 9th National Games, he crashed to the ground at Sarangkot of Pokhara.
