Kathmandu. Armenia and Azerbaijan are reengaged in conflicts that were resolved by Russia in 1994. As many as 23 people have been killed in the latest clashes between troops of the two countries.

According to a report from BBC, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said that he was confident in regaining control of the disputed region. Either of the countries has been blaming each other for starting the clash.

Prime minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan tweeted that in response to the firing of projectiles by Azerbaijan, his country has shot down two helicopters, and three Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) as well as destroyed three tanks. Armenia declared martial law and started military mobilization soon after clashes occurred in the disputed region. Martial law is an emergency measure in which military takes control of the civilian government.

The world community has also come forward to resolve the conflict. Countries such as the United States, Iran and Russia have urged both the countries to resolve their differences and opt for ceasefire before it takes the shape of a war. Turkey, a close ally of Azerbaijan, has blamed Armenia for starting the conflict and has extended its full support to its ally.

Other members of the world community including France, European Union, The Vatican, Germany and Pakistan also have showed their concerns over the escalating conflict and have been in favor of negotiations for resolving the conflict as soon as possible.
