Major Air Crash in Afghanistan: Moroccan Plane Crashes in Badakhshan
Kathmandu, Jan 21: A significant air crash has occurred in Afghanistan. According to Afghan media reports, a plane deviated from its original route and crashed in the mountainous area of Zebak district in Badakhshan.
As of now, neither the Government of India nor the Government of Afghanistan has officially identified the aircraft.
In a Twitter post, the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation stated, “The recent unfortunate plane crash in Afghanistan was neither an Indian regular aircraft nor an Indian non-scheduled charter aircraft. It is a Moroccan registered small plane. More information is awaited.” Earlier, Afghan media claimed the plane to be Indian.
Zabihullah Amiri, the head of Badakhshan’s Department of Information and Culture, reported that the passenger plane crashed in Qur’an-Munjan and Topkhana hills in Zebak district of Badakhshan province. An investigative team has been dispatched. According to local residents, the crash occurred on Sunday morning. The number of passengers on the plane and their nationality remain unclear at this time.
