Kathmandu, Mar 13: In a disappointing turn of events, Nepal suffered a significant defeat against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the final of the T20 series held in Hong Kong, marking a challenging conclusion to the tournament.

Chasing a formidable target of 172 runs set by PNG, Nepal faced a batting collapse and was bundled out for a mere 85 runs in 16.3 overs, falling short by 86 runs.

Among the Nepali batsmen, Sandeep Zora contributed 17 runs, Arif Sekh scored 15 runs, and captain Rohit Paudel added 12 runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make substantial contributions, failing to reach double-digit scores.

The bowling prowess of PNG was evident as Kabua Moria, Chad Soper, Semo Kamia, and Sese Bau claimed 2 wickets each, applying consistent pressure on Nepal throughout the match.

Earlier in the game, PNG, after losing the toss and opting to bat first, posted a competitive total of 171 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Opener Tony Ura led the charge for PNG with an impressive knock of 61 runs, supported by contributions from Alei Nao (30 runs), Hila Vare (18 runs), Hiri Hiri (15 runs), Kiplin Doriga (14 runs), and Chad Soper (13 runs).

Despite a valiant effort from Nepali bowlers Akas Chand and Kushal Bhurtel, who claimed 3 wickets each, along with contributions from Karan KC and Gulshan Jha, PNG’s batting lineup proved resilient, securing their victory in the triangular T20 series and clinching the title.
