Kathmandu, Oct 8: The government has approved the opening of 57 additional mountains for climbing, bringing the total number of climbable mountains in Nepal to 461. The decision, made during the Council of Ministers’ meeting on October 21, aims to promote mountain tourism and create new destinations for climbers.
The Department of Tourism recommended the new mountain routes, ranging from 5,000 to 6,500 meters in height, in collaboration with the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). NMA President Nimanuru Sherpa emphasized the need to develop infrastructure to support these new routes and attract more tourists to Nepal’s vast mountain landscapes.
