Israeli Fans Attacked in Amsterdam During Europa League Match, 62 Arrested
Kathmandu, Nov 8: Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar is traveling to the Netherlands for an “essential diplomatic visit” following a series of violent attacks on Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam during a Europa League match.
Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv faced local opposition in the Dutch capital, where fans were attacked during the game. Dutch police reported five injured individuals hospitalized and 62 people arrested in connection with the violence.
Foreign Minister Saar called the incident a “warning bell for Europe and the world,” urging democratic nations to prevent hatred from spreading unchecked. Saar stated, “History has shown that violence against Jews never ends with them.”
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof condemned the incident as an “anti-Semitic attack” and assured that the situation in Amsterdam is now under control.
Several videos of the attacks have circulated on social media, showing instances of severe violence against individuals.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initially announced plans to send rescue planes for Israeli citizens but later canceled the operation. The affected fans will now return to Israel via commercial flights.
