Kathmandu, Feb 12:US President Donald Trump met with Jordan’s King Abdullah at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian issue. Trump reiterated his proposal for the United States to take control of Gaza, an idea he had floated in February.

Trump had also previously suggested that Palestinians should permanently settle in Egypt and Jordan, but this proposal was met with strong objections from regional countries, including Jordan.

King Abdullah, a key US ally in the Middle East, reaffirmed Jordan’s firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians after the meeting. “Jordan remains steadfast in its position against the displacement of Palestinians,” he stated.

Despite King Abdullah’s stance, Trump maintained his position during the Oval Office meeting, signaling no intention to revise his proposal.

When asked about accepting Palestinians, King Abdullah emphasized the need for a decision that would be in the best interest of all parties.

“It seems that when we finish the talks, we will have a place where they (the Palestinians) can live happily and safely,” Trump said, hinting at future plans for Palestinian resettlement.

The meeting marked the first face-to-face discussion between the two leaders since Trump’s controversial proposal, highlighting ongoing tensions and differing views on the Palestinian issue.
