Kathmandu, Feb 27: Nepal’s women’s national football team captain Angela Tumbapo Subba has apologized to fans after her team lost the final of the International Women’s Championship against Myanmar. Speaking emotionally on social media, she said, “Again, we reached the final but lost. As captain, I want to apologize to all the fans.” She added that the 16,000 spectators at the stadium and millions of supporters had high expectations and were disappointed with the result.

The captain noted that Myanmar proved to be a stronger team. “We played well in the first half, but in the second half, we fell short,” she said. She also stressed that the team has gained recognition and opportunities thanks to strong fan support, and called for more chances to compete, including the establishment of a domestic women’s league with a good structure.

Angela thanked the office bearers, staff, and all involved with the All Nepal Football Association for organizing the tournament and urged her teammates not to be too harsh in their criticism. Nepal lost the final 2-0, with Myanmar scoring in the 62nd and 64th minutes.

This loss marks Nepal’s 13th final defeat in the past 15 years, including finals in other major tournaments like the SAF Championship and the SAG Games. Despite the setback, the captain remains hopeful that with more competitions and opportunities, the team will eventually lift the title.
