Third Round of Iran-US Nuclear Talks Begins in Oman with Positive Signs

Oman, April 27: The third round of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States kicked off in Muscat, Oman, on Saturday, aiming to address Tehran’s rapidly expanding nuclear program.
The discussions covered serious issues, with both sides agreeing to meet again in the coming days, according to international media. While major differences remain, there have been some positive signs from the talks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the two sides exchanged written notes throughout the day to make the negotiations more serious and results-oriented.
Sources close to US mediator Steve Witkoff and a senior US official described the talks as “positive and fruitful,” though they acknowledged that significant work remains. There are hopes that the next round of talks will take place in Europe.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, acting as mediator, welcomed the positive atmosphere and noted both sides’ shared desire for an agreement based on mutual respect and sustainable commitment. Preparations are underway for a high-level meeting in May.
The goal of the talks is to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of strict US sanctions. Tensions have been high since former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018. Trump, while expressing hope for progress, also warned that military action remains an option if talks fail.
Meanwhile, the Iranian people are hopeful that these negotiations will bring economic improvements.
