Air India Plane Crash: Black Box and DVR Recovered in Ahmedabad

Kathmandu, June 13: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) recovered a digital video recorder (DVR) and the black box from the wreckage of an Air India plane that crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday.
The Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing at least 265 people, including 24 medical students when the plane’s tail hit the UG hostel mess of BJ Medical College in Meghani city. Many medical and nursing students were also injured and are undergoing treatment.
A Gujarat ATS official confirmed that the DVR was recovered from the debris and will be analyzed by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to help determine the sequence of events that led to the tragic accident.
The black box and DVR are key to understanding the cause of the crash. The black box records flight data and cockpit conversations, while the DVR typically stores video footage from security cameras on the aircraft.
The crashed Air India flight AI-171 was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport with 242 passengers and crew members, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national.
