Balen Shah Meets Former President Bhandari Amid Ongoing Political Tensions
Kathmandu, Jul 6: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah met with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari at her residence in Bhangal, Budhanilkantha, on Thursday.
The visit comes shortly after Bhandari returned to active politics and renewed her membership with the CPN-UML. The meeting has drawn attention as Mayor Balen has had a strained relationship with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and has openly criticized him in the past.
Within political circles, UML members have often stood united in opposition to Balen, particularly in city-level matters. As a result, Balen currently finds himself politically isolated within the metropolis.
The ongoing tensions have affected governance as well. Due to disagreements with party-affiliated representatives and municipal staff, including those linked to UML, Mayor Balen has not yet been able to finalize the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
