No Load Shedding in Chitwan, Only Maintenance Work: NEA Director Shakya

Kathmandu, July 27: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya has dismissed reports of load shedding in Chitwan, clarifying that recent power cuts were due to scheduled maintenance, not electricity shortages.
Speaking to reporters in Kathmandu on Sunday, Shakya said that the temporary power outages on Sunday and Monday were necessary to replace old conductors as part of a substation upgrade in Chitwan. “People misunderstood maintenance-related power cuts as load shedding,” he said.
He explained that the aging electrical network cannot support increased electricity capacity, and upgrading conductors is essential for reliable power distribution. “The old conductors couldn’t handle the current load, so we are replacing them to improve the system,” Shakya added.
Additionally, Shakya announced that the term of the Administrative Review Committee—tasked with resolving billing issues related to dedicated and trunk lines—has been extended by 35 days. He hinted that the NEA is likely to waive certain dues rather than pursue them aggressively, pending the committee’s final decision.
