Kathmandu, Sept 26: US President Donald Trump held a high-profile meeting at the White House with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also present in the Oval Office session.

During the meeting, which comes ahead of Pakistan’s participation in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Sharif called on American companies to invest in Pakistan’s key sectors including agriculture, energy, mining and technology. The discussions also touched on counterterrorism cooperation and regional diplomacy, including the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

Trump was quoted telling reporters of his high regard for both leaders, saying Munir “is a very great guy, and so is the prime minister.” Despite the diplomatic tensions in South Asia, the White House meeting signals a possible thaw in U.S.–Pakistan relations and renewed strategic engagement.
