South Africa Cruise to Nine-Wicket Win Over West Indies in Super 8

Kathmandu, Feb 26: South Africa secured their second consecutive victory in the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding nine-wicket win over West Indies on Thursday.

Chasing a target of 177 runs, South Africa reached the total in just 16.1 overs, losing only one wicket. Captain Aiden McCrum remained unbeaten on 82 off 46 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes, while Ryan Rickelton scored an unbeaten 45 off 28 balls with four fours and two sixes.

Earlier, opener Quinton de Kock had provided a solid start with 47 runs off 24 balls, including four fours and a six.

Batting first, West Indies struggled early after losing four key wickets in the fourth over and were reduced to 83 for 7 in 10.2 overs. However, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd revived the innings with an 89-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Holder scored 49 runs off 31 balls, striking four fours and three sixes, while Shepherd remained unbeaten on 52 off 37 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. West Indies eventually posted 176 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

In bowling, Lungi Ngidi led South Africa’s attack with three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch claimed two wickets each. Ngidi and Rabada both struck twice within their four-over spells.

With this victory, South Africa moved closer to securing a place in the semi-finals, having earlier defeated India by 76 runs in their previous Super 8 match.
