Process to Issue Interpol Red Notice Against Deuba Couple Moves Forward
Kathmandu,May 10: The process of issuing an Interpol red notice against Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has moved forward following developments in an alleged money laundering investigation.
According to sources, the National Central Bureau of Police (NCB) contacted Interpol after the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant on March 10 for investigation purposes. Interpol had reportedly requested additional documents before proceeding further, and Nepal Police recently sent the required details electronically.
The Deuba couple had left Nepal for Singapore on March 30 citing medical treatment and later traveled to Hong Kong on April 7, where they are believed to remain.
Authorities say legal pressure increased after the court warrant and reports prepared by the Asset Money Laundering Investigation Department. Officials claim that if Interpol issues a red notice, member countries would be informed to locate and detain them under international legal procedures.
Interpol is currently reviewing the latest documents submitted by Nepal Police before deciding whether to place the couple on its wanted list.
