Kathmandu. After the 2020 Presidential elections were called in the favor of Joe Biden, President Donald Trump has characteristically made things entirely difficult for the President-Elect. By leveling allegations of ballot fraud, without a single concrete evidence, he has managed to rile up his supporters towards promoting his cause. Now, a Pennsylvania postal worker, who was quoted by Trump’s close confidants and the voters who supported him, has admitted that he fabricated the report about the ballots being compromised in the state.

William Barr, the US Attorney General had previously allowed federal prosecutors to launch an investigation into the rising claims of voting irregularities. Affirming that the US Justice Department had a commitment towards discerning any possibilities of fraud, he had mentioned that “if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual States.” This paved the way for many Trump supporters to further be secure in their beliefs of possible fraud in the US Election.

The Washington Post has reported that a postal worker in Erie, Pennsylvania, Richard Hopkins, has apparently claimed on Monday that he had falsely signed an affidavit which read that he had overheard his supervisor tell the workers to change the dates of the ballots.

The Post has also noted, however, that Hopkins had posted a YouTube video on Tuesday, whereby he has denied the news reports of him disavowing his affirmation and has stated, “I’m here to say I did not recant my statements. That did not happen.” The Trump campaign has supported Hopkins by asserting that Hopkins may have been under considerable pressure to deny his earlier words.

Rob Weisenbach, the Erie Postmaster has in turn denied any charges of ballot fraud, as “100% false,” in a Facebook Post. “The Erie Post Office did not back date any ballots,” he further added.

The investigation and the reports of recant prompted the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee to tweet, “#USPS IG investigators informed Committee staff today that they interviewed Hopkins on Friday, but that Hopkins RECANTED HIS ALLEGATIONS yesterday and did not explain why he signed a false affidavit.”

As Donald Trump has continued to iterate that he will not be ceding the Election to his opponent, Joe Biden has termed the President’s behavior to be “an embarrassment.”

The President’s refusal to cede could very well create impediments for a peaceful transition in the upcoming days. Trump’s legal team by this point is trying to desperately grasp on any possibility of retaining even a modicum of power, which is unlikely to happen.
