Government to erect another Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium near Lumbini
Kathmandu. In order to promote sports tourism and for the overall development of Sainamaina Municipality in Rupandehi, the municipal office has planned to build a large 90-yard cricket stadium in Ward – 7 Lamtaiya, 2 km south of the East-West Highway.
Since the stadium is located only 12 km north of the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, the Stadium is named “ Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium”.
The Municipal Office has started allocating budget for the giant project. The total cost of the project is estimated to amount to Rs. 2 Arab 19 Crore (Rs 2.19 billion). Last year, 3 million was allocated for the project. This year, an additional budget of 10 million was allocated for Soil cutting, fencing and Detailed Project Report.
After six months of field study, the office has issued a Detailed Project Report, according to which, the stadium will be constructed in an area of 15 bighas (25 acres) whereas, the main stadium building will cover an area of 94,817 square meters.
Meanwhile, another Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium is being constructed at Bharatpur Metropolitan City in Chitwan.
