Five dead in a police chase following a mass prison break in Lebanon
Kathmandu. 69 prisoners broke free from a prison in Lebanon on Saturday after shattering the cell doors and assaulting prison guards.
Five of the escaping prisoners died during the police chase after the car they hijacked smashed into a tree. According to the Police, 15 escaping prisoners have been re-arrested whereas four others surrendered.
President Michel Aoun was briefed by the caretaker interior minister about the break-out. He has ordered to intensify the search and make a thorough investigation, Al Jazeera said, quoting the Twitter post of the presidency.
The national security forces have sealed the areas surrounding the prison. Investigations are ongoing regarding the rest of the prisoners.
