Indian Navy fighter jet crashes into Arabian Sea, pilot missing

Kathmandu. On Thursday evening, a twin-seated Russian-made MiG-29K trainer jet of the Indian Navy crashed into the Arabian sea shortly after taking off from INS Vikramaditya.

According to the officials of the Indian Navy, the two pilots managed to jump out of the plane before crashing. Of the two, the trainee pilot has already been found while the other one, commander Nishant Singh is still missing.

Indian warships and aircrafts are searching the area for the missing commander. The Navy has also ordered an investigation for the identification of the cause of the crash.

According to the 2016 report, MiG-29K has a history of problems relating to the airframe. Since 2013, India has already bought 45 MiG-29K jets from Russia.

India’s only aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya and its MiG-29K trainer jets had recently taken part in the Malabar drills along with the United States, Australia and Japan.
