Main accused in kidnapping of Valley Cold Store operator arrested

Kathmandu, Dec 30 : The main accused in the abduction of Valley Cold Store operator Baburaja Rawal has been arrested. Kumar Budhathoki of Sarlahi, the main accused in the abduction of Rawal, has been arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police. The operator of the cold store was kidnapped 13 years ago.

Budhathoki’s group had abducted Baburaja Rawal, the operator of Valley Cold Store, in December 2008 and released him on a ransom of NRs 15 million. Pralhad Mahat and Umakanta Khatiwada, two of whom were involved in the abduction, had already been arrested.

However, the main accused Budhathoki had been absconding. CIB Chief Sahakul Thapa confirmed that Budhathoki was arrested on Tuesday night.

Kathmandu District Court has sentenced all those involved in the abduction to 23 years in prison.
