Kathmandu, January 9. Over 2,000 cell towers of Reliance Jio have been damaged by protesting farmer groups in Punjab. Police have been mobilized to restore the towers in those areas.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has said that the matter is now under control as he has ordered the police to take action against those who try to vandalize the towers.
The company sources have said that along with the towers, base transceiver stations and fibre optic cables have been damaged. Police, on the other hand, claim that they have restored about 80% of the towers and little damage was done by the protestors.
Police is yet to register a FIR because they claim that there was no damage to the infrastructure and most of the towers were restored. The immediate effects of the vandalism is likely to be seen in voice calls and 4G internet users of Reliance Jio in the area.
