NHRC makes public the names of human rights violators

Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has made public the names of 268 human rights violators including high profile government officials on Thursday.

According to Commission Chairperson Anupraj Sharma, NHRC has made the names public following the recommendation of the past reports covering 20 years. The names had been made public in course of implementing the report after the evaluation of 1,195 recommendations, informs Bed Bhattarai, spokesperson at NHRC.

The human rights violators are 16 government officials including joint secretary, 98 Nepal Police officials, 85 officials of Nepal Army, eight officials of Armed Police Force, 65 persons of then CPN Maoist party, four school teachers, two doctors and a human rights activist among others, as per National News Agency (RSS).

According to spokesperson Bhattarai, out of the names booked, only 30 have gone through legal proceedings, 256 have not faced any actions.

The NHRC has urged the respective committees of the Federal Parliament to direct the government to implement the report.
