Kathmandu. According to the American Meteor Society, the Earth has been witnessing Orionid Meteor Shower every year between October 2 to November 7. This year, it will be visible in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres after Tuesday midnight.

Orionid meteor shower originates from Halley’s Comet  which orbits the sun every 76 years. The annual Orionid meteor shower contains pieces of Halley’s comet. While Halley’s comet is only visible once every 76 years, some of its debris can be seen every year in the Orionid Shower. It is expected that up to 20 meteors will pass through the sky per hour during the peak.

And, when it comes near the sun, then it emits dust particles. When Earth passes through the cloud of dust, then, the dust particles collide with our atmosphere and create beautiful lines in the sky like activity called Orionid meteor shower.

Orionid Shower is very difficult to see because of the very high speed of about 41 miles per second when tiny particles run through our atmosphere. However, experts advise looking with naked eyes from places with minimum light pollution.
