Kathmandu. The regular ‘Division Commander’s Coordination Conference’ of the Nepali Army concluded on October 20, 2020. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Purna Chandra Thapa formally concluded the three-day virtual conference organized at the Army Headquarters, Bhadrakali.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had addressed the opening ceremony of the conference on Sunday. In the conference, the prime minister praised the Nepali Army for its role in maintaining peace and security in the country and collaborating in the fight against COVID-19.

PM Oli, who also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Defense, expressed concerns that unruly groups have disrupted development works on several instances and they needed to be controlled.

Hinting at  Netra Bikram Chand “Biplav’and his party, the prime minister hoped the Nepali Army would be conscious and vigilant regarding their actions.

In the conference, Nepali Army sought information from various division commanders on the challenges put by COVID-19 and other security threats.

In a statement released after the conference of the division commanders, the Nepali Army mentioned that the organization would take actions as per the government’s direction against all miscreants, individuals or groups, who try to create disorder in the peace and security of the nation. It has stated that such actions would be monitored and subdued, collaborating with other security bodies.

Presentations and discussions on new strategies to strengthen the security of the country were conducted in the conference.

Heads of department, director generals, directors and division commanders of the respective divisions briefed on the current situation, activities and challenges experienced within their respective areas of responsibility and the performances were evaluated as well.

Delivering his concluding remarks, COAS General Purna Chandra Thapa said that the outcomes of the discussions and presentations would be important guidelines for the future and that the positive changes observed in the working procedures of the Nepali Army would help the organization to run in a systematic manner.
