Prem Raj Karki appointed Chair of Special Court

Kathmandu. The government has appointed Prem Raj Karki as Chair and Abdullah Aziz Musalman and Nityananda Pandey as members of the Special Court. A cabinet meeting on Tuesday had decided on the appointments. Similarly, the meeting has also appointed Lohit Chandra Shah in the Military Special Court, Binod Sharma as the Chair of the Revenue Tribunal, Satyamohan Joshi Tharu in the Revenue Tribunal Biratnagar and Keshav Raj Joshi in the Revenue Tribunal Nepalgunj.

Similarly, the cabinet meeting has decided to appoint Madhav Prasad Pokharel as the head of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority. The meeting approved a loan of Rs. 24 billion from the World Bank.

The appointments at the Special Court are made by the government on the basis of the recommendation of the Judicial Council from among the judges of the High Court.

The Special Court has been constituted by the state to settle disputes that are special in nature. It is not a constitutional court but a legal one. Such courts may be constituted and dismissed by the state as required. Cases of abuse of power, irregularities and cases investigated by the special commission or authority are included in the jurisdiction of the Special Court.
